HOUSTON, TX (Jan. 30, 2018) – February marks the national celebration of American Heart Month, when the American Heart Association (AHA) shines its torch on the number one killer of all Americans – heart disease.  While heart disease is a risk for all Americans, it’s no secret that women are at a greater risk. In fact, cardiovascular diseases cause one in three women’s deaths each year, killing approximately one woman every minute.  Over the past decade, the AHA has made remarkable progress through its Go Red for Women® Campaign; however, there is still much work to do and awareness to raise so more women can be reached and more lives saved.


Throughout this iconic month, the Greater Houston area is encouraged to join the AHA’s efforts by participating in National Wear Red Day (Feb. 2), committing to a healthy lifestyle, and spreading the message that heart disease is the primary health threat for those that are near and dear to our hearts.


The AHA invites Houstonians to help amplify the month’s mission by taking part in the following events over the course of the next month:

THE WOODLANDS, TX (January 2018) – The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce’s 32nd Annual Taste of the Town presented by Planet Lincoln and Visit The Woodlands was held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 4:00 pm – 9:00pm at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center.

Taste of the Town is the premier culinary event of South Montgomery County attracting thousands of people. Attendees can sample mouth-watering appetizers, entrees, desserts, pastries, and drinks from some of the area’s finest restaurants, caterers, bakeries, deli’s and beverage companies.

“Taste of the Town is one of our favorite events of the year,” says Meagen Korenek, director of special events at The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce. “We have a blast engaging the community at large and showcasing our fabulous restaurants and businesses.”

A highlight for the Taste of the Town is the Best of Taste competition including awards for Best Appetizer, Best Entrée and Best Dessert. These awards are determined by a panel of judges including Cristina Kooker from Great Day Houston, KHOU; Chef Leanne Akers, pastry chef of Barry Callebaut Chocolate; Darby Douglas, KHOU Channel 11 news and traffic anchor and Chef Roshni Gurnani, Chopped Champion and executive chef at Hotel Derek. The final award, The Planet Lincoln People’s Choice Awards, is voted on by Taste of the Town attendees through an online survey.

THE WOODLANDS, TX, (Thursday, September 7, 2017) — As our community rebuilds from the devastation that Hurricane Harvey has left behind, Interfaith of The Woodlands would like to extend their deepest appreciation of two donors. On Monday, September 4th, Interfaith received two separate donations of $250,000 from Woodforest Charitable Foundation and then subsequently from Huntsman Corporation & the Huntsman family. These are the largest single donations ever received by Interfaith of The Woodlands to date.

A longtime supporter of the community, Woodforest Charitable Foundation generously donated $250,000 to Interfaith of The Woodlands in support of their ongoing mission to help neighbors in South Montgomery County affected by the recent floods. A committed community partner for more the 37 years, Woodforest National Bank founded the Woodforest Charitable Foundation in 2005 for the purpose of enriching communities through partnerships with charitable organizations.

Robert Marling, President of Woodforest Charitable Foundation, along with his wife Kim, Executive Vice President, visited the Montgomery County Distribution Center, facilitated by Interfaith of The Woodlands. They were amazed by the sheer magnitude of the facility with the amount of volunteers and the incredible amount of donations from those in Montgomery County. The Montgomery County Distribution Center has served nearly 8,000 families and individuals in the first few days since opening to the public, with many more still needing to come through for items. Seeing the vast need in the community and the efforts that Interfaith has already established, the Marling’s chose to partner with Interfaith of The Woodlands by making a substantial contribution to assist in the recovery and relief efforts in South Montgomery County. “Kim and I have witnessed first-hand the difference Interfaith and its leadership have made over many, many years, so when hurricane Harvey hit our community, we knew exactly where to invest, Interfaith,” shared Robert Marling.

The Huntsmans were inspired to give $250,000 after hearing about the donation from Woodforest Charitable Foundation and decided to use their charitable donation as The Huntsman Hometown Hero Challenge, a challenge to the community with a promise to match dollar for dollar raised between now and The Woodlands Celebration of Excellence Gala, on October 7, which benefits Interfaith of The Woodlands. Brynn Ballard Huntsman and Peter Huntsman, the Honorary Chairs for The Woodlands Celebration of Excellence Gala, along with Presenting Sponsor Huntsman Corporation, challenged the community to join them in the ongoing efforts to support neighbors here in South Montgomery County affected by Hurricane Harvey. Between now and the Gala on October 7th, the Huntsmans will match dollar for dollar raised, up to $250,000. In a recorded video announcing the donation, Mr. Huntsman stated, “We would challenge you to be able to give what you can. Interfaith of The Woodlands is experiencing unprecedented demand on all of their services across the board, so I would ask you, your families, your associates, your business to please consider making a generous donation now in this time of need.”

Bridgewood Farms Aims To Burn Your Buns on July 4th

 Montgomery County, TX (May 16, 2017) –Bikers will take to the streets and through the rolling hills of Willis and Conroe on Tuesday, July 4th at the 14th Annual “Burn Your Buns” Bike Ride starting at 7:30 am at 11680 Rose Road in Conroe.

Presented by The Woodlands Cycling Club and the Lake Conroe Rotary Club, the course is a backroad tour that begins and ends at Bridgewood Farms on Rose Road, winds through to Shephard Hill Road and back. Relax, ride, hydrate, and enjoy your morning. Then have lunch and enjoy watermelon back at Bridgewood Farms!

The Woodlands Cycling Club (WCC) and Bridgewood Farms work to ensure the success of the ride by recruiting volunteers and officials to monitor the route.  The WCC has supported the bike ride since its inception in January 2004. The first ride event was held February of 2004 as the “Ride from the Heart” but with only 15 participants and sleeting weather the event was changed to July and re-named Burn Your Buns. The WCC takes responsibility for the ride route, TXDOT approvals, and all promotion to cycling clubs.

340 cyclists participated in the event in 2016. Bridgewood Farms is expecting over 400 attendees this year with riders ranging from 10 years old to 85! The routes are 20, 31, and 62 miles of casual, non-competitive family rides through the countryside. Last year the Bike Ride raised over $15,000 to help provide programs and services for 120 intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals in Montgomery County and surrounding areas.

“We are hoping to exceed the amount we raised last year to provide the necessary programs and services for our clients”, said Flo Nelson, Executive Director.

Each registered participant will receive a tee shirt (until supply runs out), a goodie bag, refreshments along the route, and lunch after the ride. Registration fees are $30 for individuals, and $50 for families (4 people) if received by June 30, 2017. Late registration is $40 for individuals, and $60 for families. Register Online!
